sewing, biking, and graduation?

with a little help and inspiration from pinterest, and my favorite movie fantastic mr. fox, i present you with a little evening project to be proud of.

they were originally intended for some little goobers that we get to see next month, but i'm getting more and more attached to these... maybe i'll just have to call these ones 'practice rounds' and sew up better looking foxes for la nièce et le neveu... ha! i wish i spoke french.

please ignore the fact that the bottoms aren't sewn yet. i'm not very confident of my hand sewing skills yet.

oh. i neglected to mention that i made a certain baby ellie some shoes last week.

speaking of sewing, i also want to sew a quilt, preferably one that looks like this. too bad i don't know a single thing about quilting.

moving on. rexburg has finally gotten its act together. today was a comfy 75 degrees, so we went on a bike ride to the duck pond. (turns out, we had a lot of old bread laying around.) ah, i dread the day when we won't have a/c in this hot weather. oh wait, that's now. blah.

a good portion of my BYU friends graduated this past weekend. so when the onslaught of facebook graduation pictures started to show up, it made me feel a little bit reminiscent. has it really been four years since i met them all? and they're all graduated now, moving on to bigger and better things in life. i'm so proud of my friends. but anyway, mostly i did a lot of reminiscing by looking at all my pictures from 2008 and giggled.

 for my 18th birthday, tara, melissa, corina, and kara cut out hundreds of neon paper hearts and spread them over my bed. i still have all those hearts at home in alaska. (i could be wrong about who it was. it was supposed to be a surprise but i accidentally walked in on the cookson twins during the process.) 

first sunday at college! melissa, my first roommate elizabeth, and i waiting for relief society interviews. it was here that the interviewer lady loudly asked me "oh, is this your first time to the mainland?" and it took all that i had to not loudly laugh in her face. this, however, did not stop everybody outside the room.

happy birthday, oh mother of mine!

today would be my dear mama's 58th birthday.

she passed away about a year and a half ago, right after we got married.

i miss her lots, but i know i'll see her again one day, and that is fine by me.

happy birthday, mother dearest. we'll just pretend that we woke you up banging pots and pans bright and early in the morning.

then we'd sing you the birthday song in chinese. 

and as usual, i will probably misbehave, and then get sent to bed reaaally early so you can have a little peace and quiet on your special day.

time flies when you're having fun...

for instance. yesterday marked two years since the old man and i got engaged. okay, mikie isn't really that old. but he IS turning 25 in may. i think it's affecting his memory a little, cause he swore we got engaged on march 17th of 2010. it was the 27th, trust me. i would remember getting engaged on st. patrick's day. (but instead we got engaged right after the holi festival of colors. which i guess is kind of like the same thing...no. wait. it's not.) anyyyway, that was only two years ago, so this should be fun.

also another example. TOM CRUISE IS TURNING FIFTY THIS YEAR. time has obviously flown for him since he's been making movies and having fun and stuff... seriously though. tom cruise. fifty. years. old.

example three: this semester is practically over. not being in school- so much fun! (if you don't live in rexburg!) 


example four: i started college at byu four years ago. FOUR. to some of you that may not be a lot. but to me that blows my mind. four years of high school did not go as nearly as fast as these four years from 2008 to now did. it seriously doesn't even seem like 2008 was that long ago!


anyway, on an unrelated note, i've been reading a lot of tweets and articles from european folks. i want to live there. so bad. because they say cool things like 'trousers' instead of pants and 'loft' instead of attic, and cause of their accents. so, if anybody is down with visiting, no, make that moving there with me (and by me, i meant me...and my husband.) feel free.

rsl game + girl's weekend + the hunger games + sorbet + my neighbors are annoying (which is mean cause i don't even know them)

we chanced to be in utah last weekend, in time for rsl's first home game of the season, against the new york redbulls. we had a blast! to hear a whole stadium sing this brought chills, but in a good way. i have a video of it, but i'm singing extremely loud and it's kind of embarrassing. sorry.

michael, obviously paying attention to the game, and me... well, obviously not.

so mikie had a field trip from thursday to today. he's actually still in ogden right now, and it's 9:00... only three more hours till he's home. this will be a long night haha. but anyway, since he was gone i thought that i'd have a girl's weekend in and watch movies and do crafts and sew and stuff... did any of that happen? no, not really. all my friends were in school, studying for finals, and i was left to explore pinterest by myself. in fact, i was so bored that i temporarily considered cleaning my apartment. what did i do this weekend? i couldn't really tell you. oh i know. signed up for a twitter so i can follow my favorite celebs... ha okay, slightly embarrassing because i told myself i was never ever getting a twitter, ever. oh that's not the embarrassing part though, the embarrassing part is that out of the 16 people i've figured out how to follow, seven are from the united kingdom. of those seven, five are from harry potter, one is from one direction (hahaha did i just admit that?) and the other is simon pegg.

oh and since i was so lonely this weekend, i definitely watched the hunger games by myself. IT WAS SO GREAT I LOVED IT AHHH! i want to take michael to watch it next week. oh and my friend steph is coming to visit her fiance the week after, we'll probably watch it together then too. i could not have been more pleased with a book to movie adaptation. my whole theater was crying (or at least had wet eyes) during rue's death, i loved the capitol's clothing and make-up, josh hutcherson didn't look like a midget, it was just so so great. i loved peeta's interview with ceasar flickman, i loved katniss, that boy with the bread, ah. just perfection.

it's been hitting the mid-sixties lately, which is absolutely wonderful and i love it. except i am still not accustomed to hot summers. mid-sixties is my limit pretty much, so today i made some homemade strawberry-lemon sorbet (italian ice?). i'm eating it right now and it's absolute heaven, extremely cheap to make, and you don't even have to own an ice cream machine to make it. it just requires a lot of time for it to freeze, basically.

so we live in an old apartment complex. i heard it was built in the fifties or sixties, so granted there are a few squeaky floorboards here and there. my neighbors that live above me have the most uncanny ability to find the squeakiest ones and i swear that they just jump up and down on it, while throwing bowling balls around. literally, hours. it drives us nuts. oh, also part of their uncanny ability is to all of that right before we try to get to sleep. oh and sometimes they vacuum at eleven at night, no big deal. ugh.

but to end on a brighter note, the semester ends in just two weeks (i say that like i'm a student or something... ha, tricks.), mikie won't have 7:45AM classes anymore, our friend luke is getting married, and it's almost time for general conference. life is awesome!

i figured i should probably mark the occasion with a blog post. yay!
besides blogging to mark this extra special day, mother nature surprised us with a snow storm.

oh, and nbd, but my poor little car got hit, in the school parking lot while i was picking up michael. little v (that's what i've named it, just now.) has taken quite the beating. i think this marks the sixth time our car has taken a beating from a bigger car... :( sigh. this time was different then the other times though, in that absolutely no damage was done (as in, there was no more damage to be done to it haha). i'm seriously starting to think that a driver's license test should be taken every year. rexburg could really use it.

besides that, we have been sick as dogs over here. we've also been petting dogs. neither are related to each other. oh and fyi: post nasal drip is maybe one of the most uncomfortable things i've experienced, sickness wise. so after spending lots of money on me to buy throat lozenges, my new BFF mucinex, and lots and LOTS of soup and juice, i start to feel better just as mikie starts to feel worse. tis the season, right?

we were in idaho falls a couple of weekends ago and came across this guy selling puppies in a parking lot. i don't even really like dogs but for that fifteen minutes i really wanted one. i mean, how could you not? however, we like to think we are logical and sensible people and so we didn't fork over the $300 and impulsively buy a dog, but we watched some people do that. they impulsively bought a dog, that is, with their $300 pocket change.
